Improved Default Textures
Whenever you play Minecraft, do you feel like some of the textures just needed tweaking to make the experience better? This "Improved Default Textures" pack for both Java and Bedrock was created to make many of those textures better!
This is NOT AT ALL a complete texture over hall. This pack is used to make many block textures just that much better in order to improve builds and the overall experience! One way is added brick color variation and color, the other is improving textures that don't really fit in with other blocks, and a few other miscellaneous changes to blocks have occurred as well. Currently with the new pack, cherry wood has been updated with round leaves, flowers were given slightly larger textures, and the Bedrock pack has been given a update to more closely match with Java in terms of some missing textures.
One of the main purposes for created this pack was to remove the thick borders on the "smooth" or "polished" blocks. Other blocks like lapis, iron, GLASS, shroomlights, prismarine bricks, redstone, and cut sandstone (with also a new brick like texture) have also had their borders removed too! Tinted Glass also has the same treatment.
Smoother stone (stone like) textures have been added into the game, most recently smoother calcite and tuff. Ore textures have also been improved, with variation being added in the Java Pack as well. Caving tools have also been redesigned to give each variation a separate look based on material
Even grass like blocks have had their textures updated too, where all 4 sides of the block look similar to the top (like optifine).
There are also a few more altered block textures as well that have not been covered. Not only that, but many items have had their textures altered (tools, weapons, armor, other random textures)) and currently a few entities. The end sky has also been given a nice starry background to replace the old background, and what better than a new dragon-skin elytra. Tools especially have been updated as well as HUD aspects, with many new changes in this update. There is also a new X crosshair, numbered hotbar (now fixed on bedrock), less obstructive icons (ex: Hearts) and a now semi-transparent pumpkinblur effect.
A dark UI mode is also available now, and Bedrock has it added in as 2 subpacks. The dark UI now utilizes a blue colored hover-selection instead of the standard White (Java) or Green (Bedrock) (note: bedrock pack setup does allow for some specific customization elements without altering code, making the pack much harder to work with and implement new features)
There is even a Java version of that pack that includes some textures and features that are unable to be easily added (or added at all) into Bedrock due to engine limitations. You can download both a standard and the OptiFine B/LG pack from my MediaFire link below (and old versions of packs for both versions). Java's dark GUI is always on, but is also more polished than Bedrock's for technical reasons.
Bedrock now has a Border-Lower Grass (B/LG) SUBPACK to mimic the OptiFine pack textures (without ctm). You can now also try out each pack with a dark UI setting. To change subpacks, go to the applied resource pack, hit the gear icon under the pack, and change the slider to "standard" or "B/LG". Here is a link to my Planet Minecraft page that focuses on the Java version of this pack: https://www.planetminecraft.com/texture-pack/improved-default-textures-pack/
Also, feel free to give feedback on certain texture changes, texture ideas, and improvements in the comments of this page. Especially now with the 1.20 release.
You can now download the better glass textures separately. The pack selector will allow you to also access the java glass pack, and other older packs.
Note: All texture packs were made on and for Windows 10 OS (PC), but they should work on other platforms (phone/console) and other Operating Systems (Mac/Linux). This was not tested.
Note 2: The (bedrock) packs may not load in all the textures if it is not set as a global resource pack. If certain UI textures still do not load properly, unequip and reequip the pack.
Note 3: If you want to edit this pack for your own personal use, the .zip pack was included (for bedrock) as well as the ready to import .mcpack. I ask however, that you at least credit me if you decide to make your edited pack public.
