Smart Skins

Smart Skins is a texture pack which allows you to give your own skin that use right now a custom texture for each biome which changes automatically when you move biome and all the tools which you need to do it! or alternatively use a completely different skin for each Biome (experimental gameplay is required)

so just like my adapted mobs texture pack does with mobs, this texture pack gives your skin a custom texture for the biome It is in as can be shown below with my skin, all the code had been written for you, all that you need to do is add your own skins (just so you are aware this is a texture pack so other people will see you as the skin which you use still unless they have this on too)

Tutorial - Please read before using the pack

you probably don't want to use my skin, so now this will show you how to use it with your own skin This tutorial Is for windows 10, But if you are on another device you can ask for help on my discord, firstly once it has been downloaded, you want to find where the pack is saved, It should be in "C:\Users\(whatever your name is)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\resource_packs\smart skins".

the first thing you want to do is click on the render render_controllers and open the file biome.skin.render_controllers.json (I use VS Code here but notepad is fine) and replace my name with your minecraft username, make sure you spell it exactly as It appears in game, doing this will mean that the textures will only applied to you, which means that once the ability to use the query's to test  which biome a mob is in Is added  to the main game instead of In the experimental toggle, It will not break objects which use player entity's in servers too, however for now It is still locked under experimental gameplay and so cannot be used in servers which do not have experimental gameplay turned on, but If they do, It will work, If you would just like to use my skin, you are now done, Just open minecraft and The pack will work if you turn on experimental gameplay

adding pre existing skins (go down to using your skin If you would like to have one skin which changes for every biome)

adding existing skins is simple, Firstly open the "custom skins (put your edited skins in here)" folder. and now search the internet or skins you have made already and find 24 skins you would like to add If the image is 64x32 (meaning the skin looks like this)

you can use this online converter  to convert the skins into the 64x64 skin template (it can be any size so If you would like to use a higher resolution skin they will work too, to use it just click on chose file, select the skin you want to convert, and right click the skin that looks like this and right click, then save image as, and then replace the skin named the biome you want it to show up in, in the custom skins folder with the skin you converted, do this for all the 24 biomes (you can ignore the template), and then you can use the skin in game, Just make sure the game is using experimental gameplay for it to work

using your own skin

before I begin this bit I'm going to say now, This process is a bit lengthy (but definitely worth is) so If you get stuck or need help with absolutely anything, I am always happy to help everyone who asks for help on my discord server

so firstly you need to the skin you would like to use and convert it into a 64x64 texture as shown above, but this time save it as the template. now its time to start editing the texture, firstly you need a way to edit the textures, so download the free app paint.net from  https://www.getpaint.net , just press the download button in the top right hand corner of the page of the page, and download it as you would any other app, and you will also need the transparency tool from this plugin pack  https://www.boltbait.com/pdn/  download BoltBaitPack51.zip and extract it in the path "C:\Program Files\paint.net\Effects" this will give us the transparency tool which we will be using to make parts of skins glow, If you would like to keep them for ideas encase you get stuck, you can copy all of my skins textures to somewhere else so that you can refer back to them. and now we are ready to start so chose the skin you would like to start off with, and copy the template skin into that file replacing the skin there with your own, and open it in paint.net If you need a basic tutorial on how paint.net works and how to install it, this one by agent mindstorm is very helpful, now its time to let your artistic ability lose, also you don't even need to be a good artist in order to make good skins, just have a tinker around until you make something that looks good, I have added a few vanilla block textures into the pack which you can use their colour pallet on your skin, to do that simply select a pixel from that blocks texture which is the colour you want by using the pipet tool (press k to activate)   and once you are happy with a skin and then use the bucket tool by pressing F and set the settings in green to this to replace every pixel of the colour you painted with the colour you selected.

the curves tool and hue and saturation tools are also very powerful tools which can help you, they are great if your skin contains have a large colour pallet but with similar colours, once you think you have finished the a skin, load up a world with experimental gameplay on and go to the biome you made the skin for and it should show up, and if anything looks weird you can change it. there are 4 biomes which are slightly different as I made part of the texture glow, these textures being the End, mesa, nether_waste and soul, to make part of a texture glow you need to set the transparency to 1% and so for these textures we need the transparency tool we installed earlier use the selection tool and select all of the parts you would like to make glow and then click the adjustments tab then transparency and set it to -99 like this

these parts will now look invisible, but they will glow in game, if you would like to go back and edit these textures simply go back the other way to +100 and then once finished go back again, once you have done this for all the textures then you are finished and you can use the pack in all worlds where this toggle is turned on.

want to share your skins or use a pack someone else has shared?

I will create a channel on my discord server for you to share your finished packs, If you want to simply select everything in the pack, click compress, and then make sure this box is ticked and rename the pack from .zip to .mcpack and go ahead and share it for other members of the community to enjoy
