Vanilla Mob Variants

Taking inspiration from Optifine’s random alternate mob textures, this resource pack brings 100 subtle variations for each included mob so that they don’t all look like clones! This is done using a combination of alternate textures (including baby-specific textures) and entity tinting to make even mobs with the same texture look slightly unique. This pack will continue to be updated with more mobs and textures as long as people show interest in it, so vote for what should be added next!

Why a Resource Pack?

Unlike addons that use a behaviour pack, resource packs can be applied in the global resources settings and then used everywhere – server, realms, and survival worlds without disabling achievements. Just set and forget!

The only downside to this is that the mobs will randomise their texture each time they are rendered – but this could be fixed using an optional behaviour pack (if enough people want it).

Current Features:

  • (V): Variant textures, 5 additional textures per mob
  • (T): Subtle tinting, 100 different tints per mob
  • (B): Baby-specific texture, 1 per mob

Current Mobs:

  • Pig (VTB)
  • Cow (VTB)
  • Chicken (VTB)
  • Sheep (T)
  • Bee (T)
  • Fox (T)
  • Drowned (VT)
  • Pillager (T)
  • Piglin (T)
  • Strider (T)

Planned Features (vote for one in the comments):

  1. More tinted mobs (choose 3 mobs)
  2. More variant textures (choose 3 mobs)
  3. Optional behaviour pack for persistant variant textures
  4. Tint-only version to work better with other texture packs

I will start working on the next update after every 10 ratings, and will choose the most commented feature.

Licence and Usage:

Please include a link to my github page to disclose the source when distributing this pack elsewhere – giving credit is the least you can do.

Installation

This pack should work on ALL versions of bedrock (mobile, win10, and console) as long as you have a file explorer.

Open the .mcpack file with your preferred file explorer to install it onto Minecraft.

If your file browser does not let you open the file using Minecraft, rename the file extension to .zip and extract the contents into your resource packs folder.
