Frost V2.1.11 (Hotfix)

Frost, the Ice Plains overhaul addon is back at it again with a huge update! This update completely overhauls caves within the Ice Plains, adding in a lot of brand new content, exploration, lore, and fun!

Frost is an addon that overhauls all Ice Plains biomes in Minecraft. With Frost installed, you can expect to encounter new enemies, blocks, loot, bosses, structures, added lore, and sooo much more! Ice Plains are no longer flat and boring biomes! If you are looking for exploration, then you've come to the right addon!

With the recent update for Frost, V2.1. You can expect even more exploration than ever before by heading into the brand new overhauled caves!

If you'd like to see the new content added in by Frost V2.1 in action, feel free to watch the trailer below 🙂

Watch the Frozen Depths trailer here ^ Why not subscribe to help me out too while your watching? 😀 Enjoy!

Cave Generation/Ores

As of Frost V2.1, the caves have been overhauled entirely and are now Ice Caves. These Ice Caves are meant to be harder than normal caves, so you will not see as many ores. However ores do generate, but not every ore does. There are also 2 new ores you can find when exploring. You can see the ores further below.

The Ice Caves will replace all Stone/variants so you will only see Frozen Stone/variants. Not only that, you will see lots of Ice and a new snow block, Iced Snow which is snow but harder to break.

The image above shows all new frozen blocks that will spawn in ice caves, replacing, vanilla stones.

This image above shows all new blocks that can generate below. Breaking some of these will yield useful materials/loot for you to use in survival. (Some of these have more info under Special Items/Blocks)

And, finally we have the 4 ores that generate it caves.

Why not all Vanilla Ores you may ask? Well, Frost, how I envisioned it, was always suppose to make the Ice Plains biome a hard, but survivable biome. I only added the necessity ores, Iron for tools and armor, and gold for Piglin bartering. You can get other ores however such as Diamonds and Lapis through mobs, pots, and loot crates. Any ore that does get added into the future however, will most likely be a modded ore such as the ores all the way to the left. But, just because Iron and Gold generate, doesn't mean it's common. They are very rare, and Iron and Gold ores will not drop their raw counterpart. Instead, they will drop as a block, and you will need to smelt it just like the original ways of smelting.

Let's talk about the new ores now. If your a long term Frost user, you can skip the rest of this section. If you are a new user, please read the rest of this section to learn more.

This ore, is Frozen Ore. This will be the most commonly generated ore you will find in Ice Caves.

When you mine it, it will drop as a block. You will have to then smelt the block in a furnace like the original way of smelting ores was prior to 1.18. Once you've smelted the block you will get a Frozen Ingot. You can then check out it's recipes as the ingot has the "Material" tooltip. (Material tooltip has more info in Special [Tooltips] as a separate section to read).

The next ore is Arctic ore. This ore is rare and only generates below 0.

This ore when mined, will drop 1-4 Arctic Crystal Shards. You can craft an Arctic Crystal using those, and with that crystal, you can upgrade frozen gear! (Frozen gear from Frozen Ore.) The Special Items/Blocks section explains the Frozen and Arctic gear recipes a lot more in depth.

All Mobs/Bosses

When exploring the new Ice Plains, you will see quite a few new mobs either on the surface or underground. Many of them have useful drops that you can use to craft new weapons, potions, or other items.

HOSTILE:

This is the Frozen Zombie, just your simple zombie that has been frozen. You can find him spawning at night on the surface at night or underground in Ice Caves. Stat wise, they are the same as a normal zombie, however they will inflict slowness for 30 seconds if they hit you.

Drops Frozen Flesh, and rarely a Frozen Carrot or Frozen Potato. Each of these can be defrosted (more info in "Special Tooltips")

Next is the Frozen Undead Miner. This is a hostile enemy that will spawn in Ice Caves.

Stats:

Health: 20

Attack: 4

Drops Glove (3%) and a damaged Golden Helmet (% Varies).

Next up is the Frostbite Spider. This is just your average spider that has adapted to the harsh elements. You can find them spawning at night on surface, or in Ice Caves. Stat wise, it's the same as a normal spider, however getting hit by one has a chance of inflicting slowness for 30 seconds.

Drops Frostbite Venom (Up to 2, 15% chance), Frozen Spider Eye (Used for new potions, or eat to get slowness for 5 seconds), and string.

Next up, Ice Elementals. These are a flying/ranged enemy. You will find them mostly spawning underground in Ice Caves, however very rarely they can spawn on the surface.

Stats:

Health: 15

Attack: 5 (ranged, inflicts slowness sometimes for 30 seconds)

Drops Ice Essence (up to 2, 35%, very useful item that will be used for a lot of recipes/repairing), and a secret item (2% drop chance). Have fun farming! A few things to note, is that one they are attracted to Frozen Crystals, so you will see them by these most of the time hovering still. And two, they spawn in decently lit areas. So, use this to your advantage when farming them!

Next up is the Damned Soul. A ghost subjected to eternal torment because of their greed for treasures. These mobs will spawn rarely in Ice Caves. Always keep your eyes peeled, as they will come from above and attack you.

Stats:

Health: 16

Attack: 5

Drops Rune Fragment (up to 2, 10% chance, this item is used to craft something that turns into a boss, more info later.) Ice Essence (Up to 3, 15% chance), and finally a Frozen Key (20%, used to open a certain chest, more info below.)

Next up is the Frozen Chest. This mob will spawn very rarely underground, and in order to open it, you will need a Frozen Key. It will despawn after some time however if not opened. If you open it, congrats, you get the loot inside it. (Key will be used up)

Drops, a lot, and the amount varies. But you will be commonly seeing gold, iron, and rune fragments (useful for a boss, more info later).

But, you may not always get said loot...

Sometimes you might just awaken a hungry mimic! Oh no! He's going to eat you alive! What ever will you do? Kill it, obviously to be rewarded handsomely. Anyways, this a mini-boss that has a 25% of being a mimic when a Frozen Chest spawns. You won't know what it is until you open it, it gives a nice element of surprise.

Stats:

Health: 150

Attack: 12

Special: Does not move, will only hop after you, use this to your advantage.

Drops, once again varies, but you will get diamonds, emeralds, arctic shards, and frozen ingots, and a secret weapon (5% chance). You will also get even more drops from a Mimic as opposed to a normal Frozen Chest!

Next up, Arctic Necromancer. This is yet another mini-boss. This is a fast moving mob that will summon new enemies to dish out quick damage against the player.

Stats:

Health:250

Attack: 6 (+7 more with his sword, so 13)

Special: Can sometimes jump at you, and summons allies. (4 every 10-25 seconds) You will want to deal a lot of damage before he can summon a lot.

Necromancer's Ally. They always spawn with Ancient Frozen Swords, and sometimes pieces of the Ancient Frozen Armor set. They can be quite tough to kill, especially if they spawn with full armor. Killing them only has a chance to drop their armor or weapons. You can definitely farm the boss' minions.

Stats:

Health: 20

Attack: 4 (+7 more from sword, so 11)

The boss itself must be summoned only from crafting, and then breaking his tomb block. Recipe will be shown if you have at least an arctic shard in your inventory.

Drops (Necromancer), a lot, and it varies. This boss is a good farm for Rune Fragments. Has 1 secret drop.

Next up is the Rune. This mysterious Rune leads to a boss fight if you complete the tablet, and survive the trial...

This Rune generates in a structure (more info in "All Structures"). It's harmless at first until you activate it.

In order to activate it, you will need an Unknown Rune. This is crafted using 9 Rune Fragments at a crafting table. Once crafted, walk up to the rune with it in hand, and right-click it to put it in.

You'll know if you did it if you lose the Rune and it begins emitting particles. What's next? That's up to you. Once right-clicked again, it will initiate a trial where you must fight Frost Mages for 15-25 seconds.

2 Will spawn in immediately after right-clicking, and after it will spawn 1 in periodically. If you successfully survive the trial, the boss will emerge.

You'll know when the boss emerges as the tablet will rise and absorb energy from the ground.

After a few seconds, the Arctic Guardian will spawn. This is the first real boss of Frost. Coming at you with strong attacks and 2 phases to fight through. This boss may be a little tough to fight inside of his structure, so you should build a small flat area close and lure him out.

Stats Phase 1:

Health: 600

Attack: 7

Phase 2, he can fly and becomes a ranged summoner. If your not careful, he can easily rack up a lot of damage against you, especially once his summons are out.

Stats Phase 2:

Health: 300

Damage: 5 (x5 as he shoots 5 projectiles quickly. So be careful!)

Special: Summons up to 3 ice elementals every 20-35 seconds.

Drops, a lot, varies. The weapon he wields however, is a 100% drop chance. He also has a 35% chance to drop a few secret weapons.

Next up, Tundra Bandits. They will only spawn on the surface in their bandit camp structures. They can be deadly in groups or with whatever their spawned equipment is solo. Whatever they have equipped also has a chance of dropping upon their death with random durability.

Stats:

Health: 20

Attack: 2 (Default value, varies as they spawn with random items)

Next up, Frost Mage. They will only spawn on the surface in their structure or spawned as a trial mob during the Rune event. They can be deadly in groups as they will shoot you from afar.

Drops, Ice Essence (1, 65% chance), Frost Mage Hood (18% chance), and Staff of Frost (Their equipped weapon, 50% chance, random durability)

PASSIVE:

Ice Cow. Spawns commonly on surface during the day. They are just your average cow that has somehow manage to adapt to the harsh climates.

Drops Frozen versions of their vanilla counterparts. There is also a secret weapon (5% drop chance), which leads to a secret boss which leads to yet another secret!

Next up is more of an ambient mob. This is the Icefly. They die in one hit and pose no threat to the player. They spawn very commonly in dark places underground in Ice Caves.

Drops up to 2 icefly wings. These can be used for a new potion, a very useful potion actually. (More info on Frost Potions in "Special Items/Blocks"). They are quite hard to hit, or even see for a matter of fact, but fear not as the Arctic Guardian will drop a lot of these.

Next up is the Tundra Adventurer. They spawn rarely on the surface any time of day. You can trade with them for Frost related loot. And, you can tame them with Frostwood Apples, which are obtained from the Frostwood Leaves. You cannot regenerate his health or change his tool. Once he dies he dies. (This will all most likely be expanded upon in the future, as well as his trading.)

Stats:

Health: 80

Damage: 2 default (Varies because he spawns with random tools.)

Special Items/Blocks

Frost has numerous amounts of special items, weapons, and blocks. I will list the main ones here, the rest are for you to discover! (There are a lot of secret items 🙂 Most of these are craftable, recipes will eventually appear in the crafting table after you get a material for one.

ITEMS:

This is the Ice Gem. This item is used for various new staff weapon recipes and other important items.

This is the Frozen Key. You can use this to open any Frozen Chests you find spawning underground. It's a single use item however, but you can easily find these in Pots or from Damned Souls  more commonly.

This item is useful for mining in the new Ice Caves. This item is called the Ice Pick, and it allows you to break ice faster.

There 3 different types of Ice Picks you can craft.

This is the Glove. You can find this dropping off of Frozen Undead Miners. This glove can be turned into multiple weapons!

The first weapon is the Glove of Frost. A ranged weapon that fires a small ice cube. This weapon can be upgraded 2 more times after crafting!

The other glove is the Frostbite Venom Glove. This glove doesn't have upgrades, but has infinite durability and will apply fatal poison on entity hit for a few seconds. Useful for chip damage against bosses.

This is the Crystal Apple. An upgraded Frostwood Apple that gives increased speed as well as regeneration for 1 minute. (Can no longer defrost after crafting this)

This is the Icefly Wing. You get these from killing Iceflies or the Arctic Guardian, and you can use these to brew a very powerful potion.

This is Chilly Stew. A new food that takes 3 seconds to eat but gives you resistance for a minute.

This is the Ice Chunk item and Ice Clump blocks. The Ice Chunk is obtained from breaking Ice Clumps which spawn everywhere in Ice Caves. You can throw Ice Chunks to deal light damage, or infuse them with Frostbite Spider Venom to deal bonus damage and poison targets.

These 3 staffs are magic weapons that can craft or loot. They are fun to use and are quite helpful.

The is the Unknown Rune item. This is used to complete the Rune. Consumed on use, crafted with 9 Rune Fragments which drop from various sources (mobs, pots, etc..)

Next are Frozen Ingots. You get these from smelting the ore's block in a furnace or blast furnace. You can then use the ingots to craft Frozen Armor/Tools. The recipes are just like Vanilla when making armor or tools.

These are the Arctic Shards and the Arctic Crystal. The Arctic Crystal is used for upgrading Frozen Gear into Arctic Gear a much stronger set than Netherite.

The 2 recipes are examples on how you would upgrade your Frozen Gear. The armor will require a lot more Arctic Crystals, while for the tools you need 1 only. All Arctic recipes will appear under a crafting table if you have either part of the Frozen Gear set/tool, or a material used for upgrading. Now, I said it was stronger tha Netherite, however that only applies to armor protection and damage for tools. The durability for Arctic Tools and Armor is all 800.

Arctic Tools and Armor are repairable using Arctic Crystals.

This is the Log Tracker book. When right-clicked in hand, it will display logs you found during your adventurers. (From Lore Structures more info in ALL Structures)

See you if you can figure out the fates and lore behind the people who wrote them...

You will get this book the first time you join a new world. If you lose it, it's fine, you can craft a new one and it will still retain your previous discovered logs.

This is the Frozen Mimic spawner. Right-clicking this will spawn a mimic in on top of you for you to fight! You will get resistance 5 for 3 seconds when you spawn it in, so make sure to run the second you activate it! This is a one time use item. Regular Frozen Chests must still be found underground and opened with a key like normal.

This is the Frost Mage Hood. This is what the Frost Mage mob wears. They have a chance at dropping one at random durability, or you can craft it yourself!

The Frost Mage Hood has a unique effect too, it will actually buff the Staff of Frost weapon as long as you are wearing it! The Staff of Frost will have +2 more damage, and an extra +5 seconds to it's slowness effect. The hood also gives 1 armor bar.

This is the Wool Hat. Wearing this will cause the player to become immune to slowness effects. This is useful to bypass Frost mobs, as most give you slowness on attack. This gives 0 armor. So take note in that.

BLOCKS:

First block is the Frostwood Log. This is a new wood type that spawns on Frostwood Trees. You can get planks and craft basic items, blocks, and a few other things vanilla.

This is the Frostwood Tree Sapling. You can get the sapling to drop from Frostwood Leaves by breaking them. You can then plant the sapling to let it grow. It will grow after a while into a big or small Frostwood tree. You can also grow it faster with bonemeal.

These blocks are loot crates. You can find these generating in structures. There are 3 tiers, from left being the worst, to right being the best. Breaking these will yield Frost related loot as well as some vanilla loot.

This is the Necromancer's Head. When placed, you can right click him to talk with him. He can either give you hints to help you, give some lore off, and hint at future updates...? Has over 20+ lines (not voiced) of dialogue with more to be added in future updates.

This is the Ancient Frozen Alchemy Table. You will find this spawning in a certain Lore structure very rarely.

Upon interacting with it, it will open a new workbench menu called Concoct. Here you can concoct new weapons and potions that you can use to help you in battle. (The original Frost Potions are also crafted here, however they will yield x3 the amount of potions than before) All recipes will show up if you have a required crafting ingredient.

This is the Pot. There are 2 variants, a small and normal sized one. Pots spawn on the surface and underground (more common). Breaking a pot can give you basic starting goods such as arrows, torches, ingots, and more. Pots can also generate inside structures.

This is the Frozen Crystal. It generates very commonly in deepslate levels. Breaking this can give you 1-2 Frozen Shards which can be used for new weapons or other items. These are the best way to get Ice Elementals to spawn as they provide a lot of light, and attract them in the first place. To make it easier to farm Ice Elementals, here is a recipe on how to craft one of these.

Hope this helps you!

These blocks are the Iceberry Vines. They spawn commonly on Ice Cave ceilings. You can harvest them when they glow for food. The vines themselves don't grow longer, however the berries on them will grow back after some time.

Special (Tooltips)

All items in Frost now have special tooltips that you can see when hovering over the item. This is just to help people out so they can better understand what a certain item is used for.

There are a lot of new tooltips, here is what they all do.

Material: Can be used in crafting, and you can see items that involve that particular item in it's recipe

Defrostable: This item can be defrosted to get it's vanilla counterpart. You can defrost these items in Furnaces/variants, and campfires (for food items)

Consumable: Can eat/drink for certain effects

Throwable: Can be thrown such as a snowball, ender pearl, etc

AoE Damage: This item will hurt nearby entities.

Ranged Damage: This item shoots projectiles such as a bow.

Summon Damage: This item summons something, and that's how much the said summon will do.

Impact Damage: For special weapons, damage upon impact before a special effect triggers.

Currency: Can be used for trading (There is one item known as the Ice Coin that has this, however it has no use as of V2.1.)

More tooltips may be added into the future. I'm up for ideas if you have any.

All Structures

There are quite a few structures you can encounter when playing with Frost. Some give off lore, some are for the player, some are mysterious, and some are mini dungeons.

SURFACE:

This is the Frost Mage tower. It spawns rarely, and inside there are a few Frost Mage spawners, loot crates, and bookshelves. This structure can be quite hard early game, so come back later when your prepped to take it on.

This is the Bandit Camp structure, inside you will find a few loot crates as well as a few bandit spawners. This structure spawns uncommonly and can be easy to take on early game.

This is the ruined house structure. A house that was destroyed a long time ago, cause unknown. However, there are a few loot crates and basic workbenches. Could be a good starting home to withstand the first deadly night. This structure spawns rarely.

This is the stable structure. A random stable in the middle of nowhere, what this was used for, and who used it is unknown. There are no horses inside... Has a hay bale and cauldron inside. Spawns very rarely.

UNDERGROUND:

This is the Frozen Ship structure. A ship from long ago with unknown origin. The Ice Caves seem to have quite a lot of these abandoned ships inside. Perhaps this biome was a frozen ocean before? Inside these ships are a few pots and loot crates. This structure generates commonly underground. Note that this structure generates ways, either exposed, or hidden away. You can find hidden ones if you see wood jutting out of a wall.

This is the Frozen Mine structure. A mine that has been abandoned for some time. There are 2 variants of this, generates commonly underground either exposed or hidden (might easily stumble upon one if strip mining)! Inside there are Frozen Undead Miner spawners, pots, and a few loot crates. You also have a higher chance of finding Frozen Ore or Arctic Ore inside.

This is the Unknown Ruin. This is an uncommonly spawning boss structure. If you read above you'll know what boss this is for. Inside is an Ice Elemental spawner, loot crates, and a lore book.

This is one of the 7 Lore Structures. They are small simple "ruins" with a guaranteed lore book and some basic loot. The Unknown Ruin structure before this one, classifies as a Lore Structure. Finding a certain book for the first time will register to your Log Tracker. See if you can find and collect all 7 lore books! Have reading through them 🙂

Thanks for checking out my mod, why not give it a shot and let me know if you like it/have any ideas for things you'd like to see in the future!
