Lightning Bows

Have you ever wanted your bows to shoot lightning, rather than plain old arrows? Have you ever wanted your bows to be a bit more powerful? Have you ever wanted something like the channeling enchant which works without storms?

This function pack does exactly that, and makes your bows shoot lightning.

Discord: Community Server

In this function pack, arrows become powerful, and makes them shoot lightning instead of normal arrows, the lightning bolts also automatically target the nearest mob, and hits them with a lightning bolt.

Targeting

In this function pack, your bows shoot lightning, which may be a bit inaccurate, however in this function pack, the arrows target nearby entities.

Once shot, the arrow will check the nearby entities types, and on that it finds a target entity to shoot, and lightning is summoned onto that entity, thus killing it. Any arrow shot will do this, there aren’t conditions.

Targeting will hit passive mobs. Any passive mobs will be hit by the lightning bolt, this could be useful for hunting mobs, such as cows, sheep, etc.

Targeting hits only 1 mob at once, this is to prevent it from being too overpowered and to prevent lag.

Further Info

Arrows will also never hit you, unless any mob is within your proximity, and is close.

The arrows’ lightning bolts are the normal lightning bolts, like the ones that pop up and happen in thunder storms in Minecraft, which means they can cause fires, making them more powerful.

The arrows can be of any type, it doesn’t matter which bow you’re using (i.e crossbow, normal bow) as long as it’s shot entity is arrow, which with both crossbows, and normal bows is true, and will work, this means that you can directly use both normal bows and crossbows.

The targeting is not smart, it will not hit hostile mobs over priority, the arrows will cause a nearby entity to summon lightning.

Cheats must be enabled, and you must be able to access command blocks for this function pack to work, setup is simple and is on the below header.

The pack sets the gamerule ‘commandblockoutput’ to false, this is to stop the chat from being spammed.

0 tick delay will make the pack laggy. Don’t set up the pack with 0 tick delay, else it will lag since this would be executed hundreds of times a second. Preferably, set the delay to ‘10’ or such number.

Setting Up

Setting up this function pack is simple to anyone who is experienced in commands, however if you aren’t, these simple steps should help you and you should be able to fully set up the function pack using these steps:

  • Add behavior pack to your world.
  • Run ‘/give @s repeating_command_block’
  • Place down the command block.
  • Open up the command block (must be in creative).
  • Set ‘command input’ to ‘/function l-start’
  • Scroll down and set ‘Needs redstone’ to ‘Always Active’
  • Go to ‘Tick Delay’ (default value: 0) and set it to ‘10’

And that’s the entire setup, it will automatically set up a tickingarea and set the gamerules correctly so the chat isn’t spammed.
