Respawn Anchors (Proof of Concept / Add-on) [v1.16+]
The new Respawn Anchor is here – a great product of the old and long lost pal, the Crying Obsidian! This add-on introduces two new features coming right from the Java Snapshot into Bedrock – as a form of an Add-on!

pack version: v1.1
Proof of Concept Notice
I just wanted to remind you that this is only a proof of concept, for Bedrock version of the game:
- It may or may not be introduced into the Beta, let alone to the official version.
- This is an add-on that is not originally created. The concept is copied from the Java Edition.
- It is here in Bedrock just for fun, and may be in other uses such as learning more about it.
- This add-on could contain bugs, that I haven’t noticed. Experience may vary between the device you use!
- Must have the latest beta, and Experimental Gameplay Enabled!
New Blocks
> Crying Obsidian
And yes, the Piglin is not in good shape. It is expected to look like that, since its beta.
These Crying Obsidian can be obtained by Bartering from Piglins. It has a random chance, by interacting with it (Right Click, or Long Press) while holding a Gold Ingot. Other than Crying Obsdian, it also has a chance (by default) of bartering the following, as of this version:
- Obsidian
- Flint and Steel
You can also obtain it by using the /give command:
- /give @s ra:crying_obsidian 1
> Respawn Anchor
“These made it into the Bedrock version, but as an Add-on..” – My Tweet.
The Respawn Anchors are the primary Beds for the Nether. Although you can’t sleep with it, it is used for making sure you get back to where you left off as much as possible– well, as long as you charge it.
See the Usage below for more information!
You can also obtain it by using the /give command:
- /give @s ra:respawn_anchor
You may notice a similar block but ending with _0, _1, and so on. These are the data values for it. They are not mainly used. Do not get confused with it, and just do the command as shown above.
Respawn Anchor
> Setting Up a Respawn Anchor
Setting up is as easy than you think! Simply;
- Place a Respawn Anchor anywhere you want! Note that you will respawn relative to where it’s placed, when you set a Respawn Point into it. Just like beds, but in the Nether.
- Drop atleast (1) Glowstone Dust on top of it. It should consume the item, to activate the Respawn Anchor for usage.
> Charging Up & Respawn Points
Did you know that for every charge, it increases the amount of light emitted from it? To charge;
- Grab some Glowstone blocks.
- Simply punch the top of the Respawn Anchor (where the swirly thing is), and then it will charge by one!
- Per charge, it will consume one Glowstone.
- Once it reaches the maximum charge, which is (4), punching it again will set your spawnpoint.
- If you die, you will respawn on top of it, consuming a charge everytime you die.
- Once the charge reaches zero, you can no longer respawn on it until you charge it. Defaulting to the overworld’s spawnpoint.
- Breaking it will also revoke your spawnpoint location in there, even when its fully charged.
Additional Information
- New Respawn Anchor sound effects, and textures are created by Mojang, and/or its respective owners. I do not own them, and should be classified in ‘fair-use’ usage.
- Bugs and some other-weirdly things can occur. I recommend using a Medium-end, to High-end device. Low-end devices should work but experience could vary.
Installation
- Beta Versions only: since this add-on is optimized and mainly intended for the Nether Update gameplay, it only works in versions 1.16 and above!
- Read and understand the description carefully.
Stay safe, stay home! And have a nice day!
