Disorderly Derby [MarioKart in MCBE!] [Multiplayer]

Do you enjoy throwing turtle corpses at your buddies in Mario Kart? Do you enjoy watching their suffering? Of course you do! In Disorderly Derby, you can do this and so much more as you race around a completely randomized race track to the finish line!

How does it work?

This world generates a new, completely random track for you and your friends to race on every round! It takes a few from the 100+ pre-made sections and jumbles it together into a race course!

with that out of the way...

How do I start?

Good question me! To enter a round with your friends (please bring friends! It’s way more fun!), all you have to do is press the big “Start“ button smack dab in the middle of the hub, under the lily pad!

( Keep reading to find more about the other buttons in the hub!)

After a short waiting time, all players must get ready to loop around the randomized race track three times to win, while killing each other along the way!

How do I play?

I was getting to that! As stated earlier, the objective of this game is to be the first player to loop around the course X amount of times. Simple, right? Wrong! Nothing in life is that simple; to spice each round up, Item Boxes will spawn randomly throughout the course for you to pick up. Running into one will give you a random item to aid you in destroying your friends (or enemies!)

( it even makes the jingle from MarioKart! )

Item boxes look like twirly twirly zombie heads, so they are pretty hard to miss. Running into one will net you a random item out of the 16 available, which I will now proceed to expla-

Wait, what happened to the hotbar?

Before I explain what the items are and can do, it looks like I first have to tell you all about the “controls!

  • Item: the final slot of your hotbar displays what item you get from a box!
  • Crossbow: this item appears in slot 8 of your hotbar after an item is obtained. Hold it to use your held item!
  • Axe: this item appears in slot 2 of your hotbar after an item is obtained. Hold it to discard any unwanted item. If your item doesn’t work for whatever reason, discarding it will fix the problem!
  • Compass: this item appears in your inventory at the start of every round. Drop it to reset the race for whatever reason you have. If there are at least 2 players (which there really should be!) at least 2 have to drop the compass within a set time period to reset the race.

What do the items do?

Each item has a unique effect, and depending on when you get them and where you use them, can completely turn the tide of a race! There are 16 of them in total, a lot of which may seem familiar to you from the MarioKart series. HOWEVER! Because of bedrock’s command limitations, many will behave differently than their MarioKart cousins!

Here is a brief synopsis on each item, which is also available to see at the hub!

  • Green Shell [green shulker] - travels in a straight line, through walls and people. Very fast!
  • Banana [golden carrot] - Using this item drops a Banana a short distance from your head, so if you’re staying still you will hit yourself! They are basically just land mines!
  • Red Shell [red shulker] - Homes in on the furthest player and can go through walls. Doesn’t last very long and is kinda slow.
  • Feather [feather] - Using this allows you to perform a large jump, and then grants you a speed boost after landing. Can come in clutch!
  • Bomb [firework star] - This item unleashes absolute chaos that even the user isn’t safe from; a giant ”bomb” will fall from the sky, and bounce multiple times on the ground before death. Each bounce causes a huge explosion! If it falls into the void however, it’s completely harmless!
  • Lightning [trident] - Strikes everyone besides the user with a bolt of lightning, which slows them, and fries their item. It also turns them ”small”, and running over small people sends them flying!
  • Mushroom [mushroom] - This humble mushroom gives the user a speed boost and dips. Actually more helpful than it looks.
  • Star [nether star] - The star boosts the athleticism of the user, and gives them a slower fall. The main perk of using this however is becoming (almost) invincible and being able to bulldoze through your enemies!
  • Blooper [ink sac] - Bloopers blind everyone except the user after sitting in their face for a bit. Jerks.
  • Fake Item Box [creeper head] - They act just like bananas, but look more like item boxes at the price of expiring faster.
  • Bullet Bill [decay arrow] - Allows the user to cruise peacefully over all obstacles before promptly dropping them off. Very helpful if you’re stuck on a tricky obstacle!
  • Gravity [hopper] - Using this makes everyone in the air besides the user start falling rapidly to their doom! Use this when they are performing a large jump to make them hate you!
  • Boo [phantom membrane] - Boo turn invisible. Boo steal item from some other dude. This is how the Boo, do.
  • Mr. Looker [ender eye] - Using this item summons a tag team duo of a guardian and a blaze that will annoy the heck out of everyone. It even effects everyone (including the user!) with poison if they are too close!
  • Bell [bell] - The only item that can directly kill the shell family. They also kill all nearby item boxes, real or fake. Furthermore, they blow out the ear drums of all nearby foes, sending them flying!
  • Blue Shell [blue shulker] - The Blue Shell decides the fate of a random person (not first place, sorry!) and will guarantee them a world of pain. Will circle them beforehand just to let them know what’s coming.
  • Reflector [glass pane] - Reflector will be equipped automatically, and will reflect the damage from items onto the closest player! Also gives the user higher resistance.
  • Bowling Bear [nautilus shell] - Bowling Bear, once summoned, will loop around the race track while destroying all who comes in his path! Will even hit the user if they aren’t careful!

Here are 2 examples of me being bullied by items!

(green shell!) [also, you can’t deploy or discard items when sent flying!]

The Hub

( the floor changes colors! )

This is the place you will be frequenting before and after races, and is the only place you can go to besides the race track. Fortunately, here is where you can customize your game experience to your liking!

  • Start button (lily pad) - self explanatory!
  • Reset wins (emerald) - self explanatory!
  • *NEW: Add laps (slime) - self explanatory!
  • *NEW: Remove laps (magma cream) - self explanatory!)
  • *NEW: MONKEY MODE: ON (blaze powder) - MC equivalent of 500cc MarioKart!
  • *NEW: Monkey Mode: Off (heart of sea) - turns off monkey mode. Also self explanatory!
  • Item Tutorials (items) - like shown above, the hub offers descriptions on all the items in case you forget! Just press the button under each item to learn about them!
  • Day/night (clocks) - The sun and moon of the walls each have a button that will switch the time to day and night respectively. Sometimes the course looks better at night!
  • Music (music discs) - You are able to choose which song you want to listen to during each race! Just like everything else, press the button under the named item frame to select! Song quality will suck if played on weaker devices, however.

There are 7 songs to choose from, along with a ”music off” option, which is the default (it is way more fun with music though!)

[ This was only possible through the Noteblock Orchestra addon, which I will leave the download link to for you to try! ]

Respawning

So, with all those violent items and pitfalls probably littering the race course, it is very likely you are going to die over and over. But just like in Mario Kart, you will be respawned shortly from where you fell/died. Your spawn point will be set after about a second of touching solid ground, so consider taking your time sometimes! It is also possible that you don’t get respawned on a solid block, which in this case simply float back to the closest block you can find and get back into the race (levitation is given after death just to allow you to do this)! This can happen because of MC bedrock’s command limitations once again, (or maybe just my own inadequacy?) but this minor problem is extremely easy to get around by just following the above.

( this will happen to you a lot! )

Tips:

  • Make sure to switch your main hand after using an item! this is so you don‘t accidentally use another as soon as you get it! (unless you wanna spam items, then more power to you)
  • If you don’t know which direction to go in, there’s giant arrows on top of the race border that point you in the correct direction! Anyone going in the wrong direction for long enough will have to fight invisible walls and there’s a 99% chance they won’t beat it!
  • The levitation given after death can be used to cheese some of the harder obstacles, but at a slower pace than if you were to just complete it normally. Intentional game design!
  • Remember that you can hang on to any type of vines by crouching!

Other:

  • It’s very possible that lower-end devices will not be able to handle this world as well, which will end up turning upbeat songs like Waluigi Pinball into slow-paced jazz music instead and more. Lag as soon as you hit the start button is normal, and will (should!) go away shortly
  • Some items will not work in singleplayer! This is why it’s strongly recommended to play this with other people!
  • There’s a few obstacles that seem impossible to bypass, but are actually completely doable! Don’t give up!
  • This was done all in vanilla bedrock! Except for the music part, but that‘s mega optional and small and doesn’t count haha (ノ≧ڡ≦)
  • This idea was heavily based on Cake Team’s own take on a MC Mario Kart!
  • Yes, I’m using resource packs - they do not come with this world, so everything may look different for you!
  • No - you can’t ride any karts! Use your feet!
  • Here are a few more shots of the world:

( these shots suck lol )

Final Note:

  • All reviews, ratings and suggestions are greatly appreciated and help make this game even better (and less buggy)! Even the ratings that I’d argue to be less than fair are greatly appreciated! (눈_눈) (눈_눈) (눈_눈)
